zcashd
6.0.0 has been released, which will deploy Network Upgrade 6 (NU6) at the next Zcash halvening, at an activation height of 2726400. This will occur on or around November 23, 2024.
At that time, NU6 will implement a new Zcash development fund (Hybrid Deferred Dev Fund transitioning to a non-direct funding model) and set up a lockbox where a portion of issuance will be designated for future decentralized grants funding. (The disbursement of these funds will be governed by a mechanism to be determined by the community in the future, ensuring that the funds are released under agreed-upon constraints to maintain availability for years to come.)
The following ZIPs are being deployed, or have been updated, as part of the 6.0.0 upgrade:
- ZIP 207: Funding Streams (updated)
- ZIP 214: Consensus rules for a Zcash Development Fund (updated)
- ZIP 236: Blocks should balance exactly
- ZIP 253: Deployment of the NU6 Network Upgrade
- ZIP 1015: Block Reward Allocation for Non-Direct Development Funding
- ZIP 2001: Lockbox Funding Streams
A note for miners:
- The default setting of
-blockunpaidactionlimit
is nowzero
, which has
the effect of no longer allowing “unpaid actions” in block production.
This adapts to current network conditions. If you have overridden this
setting as a miner, we recommend removing the override. This configuration
option may be removed entirely in a future release.
All users should upgrade to the zcashd
6.0.0 release, or any subsequent release, in order to follow the NU6 network upgrade. End of service for 5.10.0 will be November 5, 2024.
In order to help the ecosystem prepare for the mainnet activation, NU6 has already been activated on the Zcash testnet. Any node version 5.10.0 or higher, including this release, supports the NU6 activation on testnet.
